Broodstock Multiplication Centre (BMC)
BMR Broodstock Multiplication Centre is the result of the backward integration of the BMR Group to breed high quality Litopenaeus Vannamei broodstock in India. This is the first of its kind in country in private sector and the only facility designed and built as a BMC facility.
The facility is located 15 km from Kavali in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh and is operated as a joint venture - BMR Blue Genetics Pvt. Ltd. - between BMR Group and Blue Genetics, a Mexican company specialized in breeding of SPF Litopenaeus Vannamei.
It has been a planned endeavour of BMR Group to develop indigenous specific pathogen free (SPF) Litopenaeus Vannamei broodstock with the objective of reducing the cost of importing expensive broodstock.

Objectives
- Reduce the cost of Litopenaeus Vannamei broodstock in the Indian market as the present imported broodstock is very expensive.
- Improve the quality of broodstock available for nauplii production in the Indian market. Transportation of broodstock to any part of India will take not more than 10 to 12 hours while broodstock imported directly from abroad takes about 50 to 60 hours. This includes transportation by air to India, quarantine at Chennai facility and further transportation from quarantine to hatcheries within 5 days.
- Provide the advantages of growing broodstock from PPL stage in our own seawater for over 6 months, instead of importing broodstock directly and acclimatizing them for a few days and then maturing them.
- Mitigate the capacity constraints experienced by hatcheries with the only broodstock quarantine facility located at Chennai. The BMC can help augment availability of quality broodstock in domestic market.
The BMC facility is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and adheres to stringent biosecurity measures. The design of the facilities is done in such a way as to isolate each section from the other to avoid cross contamination.
